Shooting at Howe Park Wounds 4 People Shot in Arden-Arcade Sacramento

Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are looking into a shooting that unfolded Saturday evening at Howe Park in Sacramento at the time authorities were breaking up an unsanctioned gathering of multiple hundreds of people.

How It Started

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies initially responded to the park on Howe Avenue at about half past six in the evening after learning of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. After that, a second caller reported concerning an alleged brawl unfolding at the location.

A law enforcement helicopter searched from above but reported no active disturbance. Regardless, deputies found that a massive group had gathered without click here authorization without permission.

When the Shots Rang Out

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies worked to disperse the crowd by surrounding the park and broadcasting over loudspeakers ordering those gathered to disperse at once. Around 15 minutes were provided for people to comply.

Just as the crowd began to move that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition echoed through the night. The barrage of gunfire caused mass panic. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies quickly moved to identifying shooting victims.

Four Victims Hospitalized

In total, four gunshot victims were identified as having gunshot wounds. All four — including a female and three males each reported to be in their early to late twenties — were taken to local Sacramento hospitals. Hospital staff reported that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one sustained moderate wounds, and one had injuries classified as minor. According to authorities, all four were in stable condition.

Sacramento fire crews assisted at the location and helped triage those who had been shot on location.

The Investigation

The center of the incident seemed to have occurred along the Cottage Way side of the park alongside the Home Depot at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Crime scene investigators found more spent casings on Cottage Way. Round impacts were observed in the wrought iron perimeter fencing adjacent to the Home Depot store. This ballistic evidence confirmed that at least one shooter had been firing southward from along Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot. The nearby Home Depot was secured under a brief lockdown while law enforcement worked the area. Crime scene technicians and detectives kept processing evidence through the early morning hours.

Suspect Vehicle Located

Information relayed over police scanner frequencies confirmed that a Kia was pulled over in nearby Solano County. Four detainees were in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Law enforcement units were sent to retrieve the detainees to collect the individuals for investigation. Video that was reviewed revealed that there were two gunmen.
